The Last Day of Summer

Essentially a mashup of ‘My Week with Marilyn’ and ‘Shutter Island’, The Last Day of Summer is a dramatic road movie set in the late 1950s-early 60s.

The film follows a manipulative, yet innocent model named Clara (in her 30s) who suffers with PTSD after witnessing the death of her mother at a young age.

Clara travels with her best friend Daniel who is controlling but cares for her deeply. They are travelling across her home country (Italy) to Cannes, where her ex is having his film premiered and she hopes to win him back.

However, the journey becomes difficult as Clara’s mental state deteriorates and the press surrounding her become increasingly oppressive and intrusive. All while the mystery surrounding her mother’s death unravels.

By the end of the film a truth about Daniel is revealed, throwing into question the circumstances surrounding Clara’s own death.
